Have you ever photographed what you thought was Holiday Gold only to discover a lump of coal after viewing it on your PC? A wise sage once defined INSANITY as Doing the same things you’ve always done, but EXPECTING DIFFERENT OUTCOMES.
Generally speaking, photographers disappointed with old holiday photographs, wanted to take better ones, but didn’t know how. By using these eight simple tips, you can leave this “Insanity” behind…
I. Avoiding Panic
Decide before the event, your preference for WHICH family photography poses to capture. Important factors are: who will be there, what is the environment, group combinations, and the lighting requirements (day or night).
II. Fire and Gasoline
Face the facts… sometimes family members don’t get along (yeah right… “sometimes”). Keep this in mind when taking family photography poses.
It is also OK to take smaller group photographs that are “safe,” than a larger group picture which may ignite. Often just having some distance between potential combatants works well, but that needs to be accounted for when deciding which family photography poses to use.
III. Take Numerous Image
Take more than one photograph of EACH POSE. Regardless of what you say or do, people will move at the last second. Although you can completely eliminate blinking in photos, too many photographers mistakenly rely on spotting problems by viewing the camera’s tiny LCD screen; which leads to…
IV. When to View The LCD Screen
The digital camera’s LCD screen can solve or cause problems. The LCD screen should only be used to review general framing of the picture, verify that all faces can be seen, and check the histogram. DO NOT USE THE LCD SCREEN to determine picture sharpness/out of focus, high/low contrast areas, or whether any blinking occurred (click the above link for more info on eliminating blinking).
V. Blinded By The Light
Each flash has a “flash range,” which defines the range of proper illumination your flash produces. Check your owner’s manual for how far away from your subjects you can be while still properly illuminating them.
VII. Plan “B”
If you need to be further away from your subjects than your flash allows, there are four things you can do (not counting “crying”):
- Use a tripod with a longer exposure times
- Move to a brighter location
- Increase the ISO
- Purchase an external flash unit
.
VIII. What’s The Best Angle?
When using a flash, avoid shooting directly into mirrors or reflective surfaces. If an alternate location is impractical, take the photograph in such a way that the flash is NOT PERPENDICULAR to the surface, but is at an angle (so the flash won’t be seen in the picture).
Don’t be surprised if your holiday photographs suddenly become sought after to make enlargements. When this happens, see how to both save money and insure that people don’t get “chopped off” when cropping is required.

Jerry Wickosf parenting focuses a lot with developing fine motor skills in children from an early age. Fine motor skills are those small muscles that a child uses in his hands and fingers to coordinate with his eye movement on order to get things done like buttoning, cutting, lacing, writing and the like.
Infants
While it may seem impossible, but infants have fine motor skills from the time they are born. Jerry Wickosf parenting style introduces a lot of high quality wooden toys to stimulate a baby’s senses in a way that they start leaning forward and grasping the object. Their eyes see a colorful rattle and their mind tells them to get it and explore. Fine motor skills start with coordinating the hand-eye movement so that they crawl, bend, slide or whatever other way they wish to reach for the object and play with it. If the child tries to grasp an object but aims at an empty space instead, then his eye hand coordination requires more development.
Wooden toys suggested by Jerry Wickosf parenting articles are a great alternative to plastic as they are definitely more durable, can be passed on from sibling to sibling and beyond and have less chances of being contaminated with lead like so many toys that have been recalled in the US in recent times.
The fine motor skills emphasized by Jerry Wickosf parenting do not end at infancy or toddler hood; they are getting more mature as your child grows older.
1 and 2 Year Olds
Kids this age usually have mastered picking up objects using a thumb and index finger and often start to learn how to feed themselves too. They may scribble on paper with chunky crayons, turn pages in a book and stack toys or use simple shape sorters.
3 and 4 Year Olds
Preschool age children may find it challenging at the start but they have to get used to zipping their jackets, getting their shoes on and then undoing everything as well. They might find it even more interesting to try dressing and undressing themselves if they are given some autonomy in the clothes they select So even if your four year old insists on wearing the Spiderman T-shirt day after day, let him as long as he is trying to put it on and off himself.
5 and 6 Year Olds
According to Jerry Wickosf parenting, Kindergarteners start to develop more of their fine motor skills with writing and other creative skills like painting, crafts and cutting, sewing and the like. So even if they have outgrown the wooden block stage, keep on supplying them with other building materials such as K’Nex, Lego, and even sculpting clay such as Moon Sand and Play Doh.

In the rush of getting through another day, moving along at a break-neck speed from school to soccer to piano to karate to, well, you know, have your children forgotten to give thanks? How often do we miss just saying “Thanks”? Thanksgiving time is a perfect opportunity to slow down - you’ve got your family all around the dinner table at one time for a change - and give thanks. But, sometimes it’s not as easy as it seems just to say, okay let’s be thankful now. You’ll find that in teaching your kids about being thankful this Thanksgiving, it will be easier and make more sense, and be more fun, if you use some simple crafts to illustrate the people and things your kids are thankful for. It’s not a bad project for the adults, either!

Have you had the experience of having to choose between feeding your children or paying the bills? Many single parents have gotten themselves into this position at one point or another and if you have children and you are raising them on your own then most likely you have had to apply for a single parent grants.
Unfortunately, many people are aware of the stress that lacking money and being in debt can cause which symptons include depression, worry and lack of sleep.
It is not uncommon to hear people say that something has broke and they don’t have the money to fix it. And with single parents its more common to hear this from friends and co workers.
When the washing machine of a single parent breaks, it makes it difficult to do laundry. Some people have been known to wash clothes in a tub to make do, because the washer is broken.
Making difficult choices such as washing clothes by hand or deciding between spending money on food, rent or the launderette, are all part of a normal day for these people trying to put food for their children on the table.
As you think about this, it is extremely easy to end up with debt, even for a person who is not single and doesn’t have any children. When you need money for a washer or a dryer, or something for one of your kids, these loan agencies start to look pretty good, even though you know, deep down, you’ll probably spend the next five to ten years trying to pay them off.
If you are a single parent there are places for you to get help with these problems. If you live in the United Kingdom there are services offered through Family Welfare Association. FWA Single parent grants are available when people encounter emergency situations. That is why these grants are called single parent grants and available. Clothing and fuel bills are contributed to by the FWA. (This is even more true for clothes for children.) washing machines, beds, stoves, and other such household appliances.
Several things they don’t assist you with are burial costs, private school tuition, council tax fines, overdue rent or paying back social funds. Single parent grant applications may be made only by professionals like physicians, nurses or social caseworkers.
Instructions for the U.One thing that is important to remember that ALL single parent families are eligible to receive government assistance. You can not be turned down, especially if you are in a situation that is considered dire, even with children you can not be turned down. In order to get a single parent grant, you must get the application form and fill it out. Forms can be gotten from city hall.
It is important that you answer the questions honestly and completely. This information is needed to determine eligibilty for the assistance that you are applying for and that you need.
When a parent has been absent from family life for about a year, this assistance will help the single parent family. The reason this time frame is presented is due to the legal requirement that abandonment may be claimed legally and officially after one year.

We all agree that babies are the cutest beings on the planet. Why then is there such a huge discrepancy between a really cute BABY and a truly mediocre baby PICTURE?
Here’s a few secrets for capturing baby portraits that capture the REAL ESSENCE of your bundle of joy:
Your Baby’s Most Flexible Time
Think of your baby’s first 90 days as the MOLDING STAGE. Like Gumby, you can place a baby in just about any position you want.
During your baby’s first 90 days is the absolutely best time to capture keepsake photos of BABY BITS. Additional tips and examples of baby photos can be found here.
During your infant’s Gumby stage, photographing “baby bits” (feet, hands, eyes, noses, etc.) ALONE can make a keepsake photograph. One way to accomplish this is with your camera’s macro setting. Another is to carefully crop a non-macro image.
For something more dramatic, Black and White images can produce quite an impact. Check whether your camera has a black and white setting. If not, don’t panic because most of the photo-editing software can easily transform color to black and white pictures.
To produce a possible masterpiece or two during the first ninety days, add a parent’s hand(s) or face to the portrait with the baby.
Try Different Perspectives
An easy approach is to get at eye-level with a sleeping baby, but position yourself at their feet. Believe it or not, you could easily take 40 pictures of a dozing infant, and never take 2 that are identical.
Try this photographic exercise - snap off 50 images, each from a different angle and perspective. Also incorporate different focus points and aperture settings (for depth of field) into the mix. I guarantee you won’t run out of ideas!
After you begin to think about how you could take baby portraits differently, all sorts of new posing ideas will emerge. One idea involves an extreme close up.
Using a tripod, focus solely on the baby’s eye, thus pushing the nose and everything else OUT OF FOCUS. Although it can be challenging, if you want something extremely dramatic, capture the reflection of an object in the baby’s eye.
