Internships

INTERNSHIPS

During certain projects, Momentum Living, Inc. offers internship opportunities.  We look for people who are creative, industrious, and able to learn new things quickly.  We have had very good experience with our internship program and will consider offering future internship opportunities.   During the summer of 2005 we began development of our instructional audio CDs and the DVD set A Better Outlook:  12 Weeks to Honest Optimism.

Here is how Micah Gallagher, a graduate of Westmont College, described his work experience at Momentum Living during the summer of 2005:

Choosing a major in college can be a difficult process, but at least you get to choose from a list. There is no list once you graduate. You are immediately thrust into the sea of the real world where you must learn to stay afloat. Although I was an Engineering Physics major at Westmont I decided about halfway into my senior year that I needed to follow my passion for filmmaking upon graduation. I didn’t even know where to start. The only knowledge I had in the area of filmmaking came from commentaries and behind the scenes footage from some of my DVDs.  I was diligently searching for jobs in the library when I noticed the door to the internship office open. That is where I discovered Dr. Greg Hamlin’s posting for a media related internship. I was not entirely sure what the internship would entail but I saw a lot of words that peaked my interest like, audio engineering and video editing. I called him and arranged an interview. A week later I was in his office watching training videos for Adobe Audition. I learned over ten software programs that summer including: Adobe Audition 2.0, Ulead Video Studio 8.0, Ultra 2.0, DVD Workshop 2.0, Adobe Illustrator 2.0, Adobe Photoshop 2.0. I was professionally trained in sound recording, sound engineering, and mixing. I mastered the basics of a prosumer Sony digital video camera and the fundamentals of lighting a small studio. I learned how to use green screens and I got extensive experience in video editing. By the end of my internship I had recorded and edited four audio CDs. I also filmed, recorded, and edited 2 two-hour DVDs. My experience working for Dr. Hamlin has given me a sturdy foundation to build upon. I was able to learn every single aspect of completing a DVD, from the initial conceptual, creative process to the final DVD authoring. This internship was an invaluable experience for me at this time in my career. After just one summer I can fill my resume with what I know and I have professional quality products to show for it.
It was an absolute pleasure to work for Dr. Hamlin and get to know his family. His office is a very friendly atmosphere to work in and Dr. Hamlin is always very hospitable. I not only have an extensive knowledge of video production, I also have a family away from home that I continue to remain in touch with.
